Whether your shower routine is an “everything shower” with a bunch of self-care steps and a filtered showerhead (relatable) or you use an 8-in-1 soap (please throw that out), I think we all agree on one much-needed product—body wash. The best body washes keep your skin nourished, smelling fresh, and feeling clean. No shade to your drugstore bar soap, but that old, whittled-down thing is not gonna cut it anymore.

There are a bajillion body washes out there, so no matter what your skin needs are, there’s sure to be one that’s a match. Body acne? There’s a solution for that! Dryness? A hydrating formula will be a godsend. So clear some shower shelf space and make room for one of these lovely, Cosmo-approved lathers.

Our top picks for the best body washes in 2024:

Ahead, the best body wash for fresh, squeaky-clean skin.

This gel body wash will make every shower feel like a spa day. The gentle formula is full of skin-loving ingredients like niacinamide, green tea, fruit extracts, and more. And while the lather is light, you can rest assured that you’re still getting a deep cleanse thanks to the workhorse formula and balanced pH. “The best part of my shower routine? Using this Necessaire body wash,” declares associate shopping editor Daisy Maldonado. “I'm sorry, but the eucalyptus scent is actually intoxicating— I look forward to washing off a long day with it every chance I get. I also love how great it is at treating those less-than-wanted bumps and blemishes with its blend of lipid-rich oils and niacinamide.”

  • Key ingredients: Niacinamide, eucalyptus, vitamin C
  • Size: 3.4 fl oz, 8.5 fl oz, 16.9 fl oz

CeraVe Hydrating Body Wash

Even among the hundreds of beauty products we’ve tested, CeraVe consistently reigns supreme in the skincare aisle—and this hydrating body cleanser is no exception. The wash is formulated with ceramides and hyaluronic acid—and without fragrance and alcohol. The result after one wash? Moisturized and nourished skin. “I love this body wash for my v dry and reactive skin,” says editor Corrine Sullivan. “It uses a combo of hyaluronic acid and ceramides to improve the skin barrier, and I've had way less redness and irritation since I started using it!”

  • Key ingredients: Hyaluronic acid, ceramides, glycerin
  • Size: 10 fl oz.

I know, there are probably a million other products in your beauty routine (same here), so if body wash isn’t the item you wanna splurge on, let us introduce you to Billie’s. “There’s nothing I love more than a really rich, luxurious body wash scent that fills up the entire shower, and currently my go-to is this body wash in the Creamy Vanilla Cedar scent,” explains shopping editor Hannah Oh. “The scent is way more sophisticated than the $8 price tag, it has this really amazing lather, and the gigantic bottle lasts FOREVER.” And since the brand was originally built around shaving products, this body wash also moonlights as a shaving cream apropos of its thick lather and hydrating ingredients.

  • Key ingredients: Hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, peptides
  • Size: 18 fl oz.

Now, if you wanna treat yourself by splurging on a product that you’re gonna be using every single day, let it be this one! This alcohol-free wash from Salt & Stone smells like a hotel spa and your favorite perfume all in one. And the rich scent isn’t the best part—this formula is packed with skin-balancing ingredients. Vitamin C and blueberry extract work to stimulate collagen production, niacinamide strengthens the skin, and hyaluronic acid keeps moisture locked in. The gel formula takes a sec to create that sudsy lather, but that gives the ingredients extra time to soak into your skin barrier, which is always a plus in my eyes!

  • Key ingredients: Vitamin C, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, seaweed extracts
  • Size: 15.2 fl oz.

Dry/bumpy/flaky skin will be a thing of the past once you incorporate this exfoliating body wash from Kosas into your shower regimen. And no, this isn’t your basic exfoliant that simply scrubs the skin’s surface with microbeads. This formula is filled with ingredients like glycolic, mandelic, and lactic acids that work atop your skin as well as deep into the pores and lower dermis layers. They remove dead cells, smooth hyperpigmentation, unclog pores, and soooo much more with a simple scrub. Not to mention, the scent is so incredible—I wish it came bottled up in a perfume.

  • Key ingredients: Glycolic acid, salicylic acid, mandelic acid, allantoin
  • Size: 9 fl oz.

If you haven’t heard of DedCool, let me put you on to the brand that has given a new meaning to the term “signature scent.” Dedcool is beloved for its long-lasting and unique fragrances that come in the form of perfumes, laundry detergents, room sprays, and so much more. Now, they finally added body wash to their fragrance portfolio, so you can cleanse your entire body with your fave scent in the form of a nourishing body wash. And not only does it smell amazing (thanks to notes of amber and bergamot), but it will keep you clean and hydrated with an ingredient-packed formula filled with fruit extracts, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and more.

  • Key ingredients: Squalene, hyaluronic acid, fruit extracts, aloe vera
  • Size: 8.5 fl oz.

Body wash and Dove are basically synonymous at this point, and this skin-smoothing cleanser is one of our faves from the brand’s body care line. It simultaneously cleanses and exfoliates with lauric and salicylic acid, while also locking in moisture with glycerin. “I love this body wash that specifically helps even out and smooth the texture of my skin,” says associate editor Chaise Sanders. “While it's targeted towards people of color, I think it can benefit anyone who wants a good lather and exfoliation.”

  • Key ingredients: Lauric acid, salicylic acid, glycerin
  • Size: 18.5 fl oz.

PSA: Letting the water hit your face while you shower does not count as washing it. Luckily drugstore brand La Roche-Posay—the ultimate brand for efficacious French skincare at an affordable price—has a body and face wash duo for all your cleansing needs. With just one pump, you’ll get a sudsy lather filled with glycerin and shea butter to hydrate the skin while niacinamide soothes it. This is the only two-in-one product I’ll allow in your shower, no further questions.

  • Key ingredients: Shea butter, niacinamide, ceramides
  • Size: 13.5 fl oz.

If you’re a fan of shower oils for a deep and nourishing wash, take it from our beauty editor Beth Gillette that this is the best one out there (she’s truly tried ‘em all): “Nothing—I repeat, n-o-t-h-i-n-g—has ever made my skin feel so soft, and this is simply a body wash. This shower oil (which, yes, fully washes my body—removing all the dirt, oil, and grime from the day) coats my skin with so much moisture, even after I cleanse it off. I get out of the shower feeling so smooth and hydrated that I barely even need a layer of lotion afterward.”

  • Key ingredients: Avocado oil, rosemary extract, glycerin
  • Size: 16.9 fl oz.

Dry and sensitive skin will loooove this body wash from Soft Services that deeply cleanses and hydrates. “This is fantastic for sensitive skin that wants a lil more moisture than your standard drugstore formula,” explains Gillette. “The ingredients list is fairly minimal, but it's loaded with 25 percent glycerin to pull in hydration, so my skin stays moisturized even after I rinse” And editor Olivia Truffaut-Wong is also a fan. “It's so light, and it doesn't create suds, which might make you feel like it's not working, but it is. It doesn't have a scent, so it won't irritate sensitive skin and my skin always feels nice and smooth after using it.”

  • Key ingredients: Glycerin
  • Size: 10 fl oz.

When we’re washing down there, it’s super important to use a fragrance-free and pH-balanced wash (your vagina’s pH is lower than your body’s, FYI!). So, that’s where this gyno-approved and odor-fighting feminine wash comes in. “I’m *very* particular about what comes near my you-know-what, in every sense of the word,” explains commerce editor Sarah Mahberry. “Per my gyno’s rec, I steer clear of scented feminine washes and stick with this gentle, pH-balanced foaming wash from The Honey Pot. I swear I’ve experienced less UTIs and bikini bumps since I started using it regularly. Plus, it gives me peace of mind to know I smell fresh as a daisy down there.”

  • Key ingredients: Apple cider vinegar, lactic acid
  • Size: 5.5 fl oz.
